Our Bilingual Curriculum: The Early Years Curriculum EYC®

Did you know that the greatest development of the human brain happens in the first 1000 days of life?

With this in mind, we have developed our school’s own Early Years Curriculum EYC®. Our bilingual curriculum encourages children to explore the world around them through imaginative play and age-appropriate activities.

Did you know that the greatest development of the human brain happens in the first 1000 days of life?

With this in mind, we have developed our school’s own Early Years Curriculum EYC®. Our bilingual curriculum encourages children to explore the world around them through imaginative play and age-appropriate activities.

EYC© - Circle of Development

Our Early Years Curriculum EYC® is based on the following principles:

  • Learning is fun and enjoyable.
  • Each child’s own learning is initiated individually through play and their own interest.
  • Each child develops individually.
  • The process is more important than the end product.
  • Childrens’ well-being and emotional development is supported by positive relationships so that all children feel special, unique and empowered.
  • Children feel safe, loved and respected.

Other factors also play a key role in the implementation of our Early Years Curriculum EYC:

Our unique MyDay© program facilitates learning through play.

In addition to the facility, the daily routine is another important factor. Since opening in 2001, the daily routine has been structured and enriched by interesting, age-appropriate activities. In addition to activities in early math, early literacy, music, art and movement, swimming, yoga, gymnastics and Mandarin are also offered. In addition, all children regularly go on forest days and day trips.

The learning environment at Little Star Day School is intentionally designed. Each age has its own demands on the interior design of the space. We take these demands and needs into account and design the environment to be stimulating and exciting. Depending on the age, the number of children also varies. This affects the density of care, which is very high at Little Star Day School.

Development Portfolio

Every child has his or her own interests and abilities. Natural curiosity allows the child to ask, explore, and discover. While the children learn through play, they are observed by our educators and supported in taking the next developmental step. These regular observations are collected in the development portfolio and serve as a basis for discussions with parents. The development portfolio accompanies the child throughout their time at Little Star Day School.

Professionals as a Personal Coach

We deliberately call the professionals with us teachers, because they give the children more than just excellent day care. They are there for the children and support them in everything they do. They create a stimulating learning environment filled with exciting activities. Our teachers know your child and how to support them with questions, challenges and discovery.

Multi-sensory Approach

Our Early Years Curriculum EYC® is a holistic support program with a multi-sensory approach. The child is accompanied in all areas of their personal development and can thus realize their full potential. The multisensory approach allows the child to learn through different approaches and thus to connect their knowledge with new things. The Early Years Curriculum EYC® includes the following elements:

The BIG Question

Concept-based learning through questions on current topics. This promotes analytical, logical, and critical thinking at an early age. It also stimulates creativity.

Readiness to Read and Write

With the Jolly Phonics program, children encounter language and its symbols at an early age. In parallel, the KonLab program and Leseschlau support language development in German. In addition, the children develop motor skills and are thus prepared for reading and writing.

Language Development

At Little Star Day School, children are immersed in a bilingual world of communication. Stories, role play, conversations in everyday life – immersively they learn and develop their language skills in German and English. Both the everyday language and the educational language are promoted. Even the youngest children at Little Star Day School begin to communicate at an early age with the help of baby hand language.

Music and Fitness

Daily musical sessions give children the opportunity to explore music through song, movement, and instruments. They learn about a variety of cultures and styles as well as rhythms and patterns.

Math Program

With this program, even young children are immersed in the fascinating world of numbers. They learn the first elementary concepts of mathematical symbolism, quantities, and relationships.
